Here are a few of the most common questions we are asked – if you have others do get in touch.
When and where do we meet?
Dorking Deepdene Rotary Club meets at The Watermill Inn, Reigate Road on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm for 7.45pm.
We encourage you to come along and support the Rotary Club as much as you can in the time you have available.
What do we do?
The Rotary Club provides a wide range of social and fun activities and events throughout the year for charitable causes.
You will see from our photo gallery the many different activities available such as dinner parties, BBQ’s, day trips or local community work. Please also checkout our Facebook page for regular updates, ‘like’ and ‘share’!
Some meetings we have guest speakers and we enjoy a one-course meal together. The day-to-day running of the Rotary Club is conducted by the committee members who rotate as appropriate, giving all members, new and existing, a chance to get involved and help support the life of the club.
Wives, husbands and partners are all welcome to our Rotary events.
Who runs the Rotary Club of Dorking, Deepdene?
We have a President who is elected for the year along with the Treasurer and Secretary.
There are a number of committees:
Who can Join?
Men and women in a ‘profession’ insurance, nurse, marketing, building, architect, banker, retailer, etc. Quite simply like-minded people who want to give something to the community as well as enjoying themselves.
What are our main events to raise money?
The annual Swimarathon at Dorking which always proves to be a successful event.
Also helping with the Brockham bonfire and a social function all help towards our chosen charities.
In recent years, we have run a very enjoyable and successful Jazz Cafe in the town and hope to make this a regular fixture in our Rotary calendar.
Where does the money go?
To local and international good causes.
For example – we bought a boat for disabled people, sunk bore holes in Africa for fresh water, supported Starhurst, Ashcombe and Priory schools and sent much needed shelter boxes to disaster zones. The 2016/17 Rotary year saw us contributing to a medical ambulance vehicle for Syria.
The list is long in our 34-year history!
Will this take up a lot of time?
No, you give the time you can spare. We get involved giving a helping hand when and where needed, when we can and as a team.
